Aaron West is the founder of West Family Builders, established in 2007. He grew up in the Southern Appalachians and spent years working in roofing and hardwood flooring before starting his own contracting company.
West Family Builders is a small, family-owned operation. Aaron handles estimating, scheduling, and on-site work himself, and works with a trusted group of licensed specialty trades — electrical, plumbing, and mechanical — when a job calls for it. Every project has one point of contact from start to finish.

Free on-site walk of your lot or home. We listen to what you want, look at what's there, and give you an honest read on scope, timeline, and budget.
Working with your architect or drafter, we produce a plan set and a written, itemized estimate. You see every line item before you sign anything.
Work begins on schedule. You get regular progress photos, milestone walk-throughs, and any change orders in writing before the work happens.
Final walk-through, systems handoff, and a written warranty. We answer the phone after the job is done.

Yes. West Family Builders is licensed and insured to work as a residential general contractor in Tennessee and North Carolina. Proof of insurance is available on request before any contract is signed.
For carpentry, framing, roofing, and finish work, our own crew handles the job. For licensed specialty trades — electrical, plumbing, mechanical — we work with a small group of tradespeople we've used for years. Aaron is on site as the point of contact for every project.
As of 2026, a well-built custom home in the Tri-Cities and the Blue Ridge typically ranges from about $275 to $475 per square foot for standard finishes, and $500 per square foot and up for high-end mountain construction with steep-slope engineering or heavy custom millwork. We provide a free on-site estimate and a written, itemized quote before any work begins.
Yes. We work with engineers on foundations, retaining walls, erosion control, and stormwater plans for steep-slope lots across Watauga, Avery, and Buncombe counties. If you haven't purchased the land yet, we'll walk it with you first.
